SORTIR DE LA RÉSERVE

Persistante depuis des années, parce qu’elle porte une promesse et attend son mode d’emploi, l’idée de sortir de la réserve se veut l’horizon de rencontres portées par des travaux, des pratiques, des praxis et des tentatives, réussies ou échouées, de sortir d’un ordre des choses ayant atteint ses limites de viabilité. Sortir de la réserve constitue autant une forme de pensée déliée de loyautés scientifiques eurocentrées, une façon de désigner le lieu du tort, la réserve, comme site intense de la colonialité, qu’un projet d’exploration et de mise en relation, de connaissances établies, de savoirs en cours de défrichage, ou de savoirs effacés en voie de re(con)stitution. Tout ceci sera mis au service d’actes de langage et d’actes de transformation tenables dans le temps et durables dans leurs effets.

Séance du mercredi 20 novembre, 18h-20h : « Intersections with Critical Indigenous Studies: Navigating the discipline of literary studies »
In this seminar I will explore the shaping of Australian Indigenous literature as an object of study within the discipline of literary studies. In doing so I will expand upon literary studies to unpack broader issues of epistemological supremacy found within academic disciplines built on White, Western, European, Northern and patriarchal foundations. I will begin by tracing the history of Australian Indigenous literature as an object of study within the academy: beginning with its obfuscation within literary studies, through to its shaping as an object of study within disciplines such as anthropology and ethnography, and then to its contemporary moment as (once again) an object of study within the field of literary studies. I will end by pondering the future of Australian Indigenous literature within the academy, by considering disciplinary intersections with the field of Critical Indigenous Studies.
Séance du jeudi 21 novembre 18h-20h : « Creative Practice as Resistance: Literature, art and performance under settler-colonialism »
Situated across literature, art and performance, my creative practice explores narratives of truth, grief, and devastation, interwoven with explorations of race and gender. In this seminar I will critically reflect on my creative practice as it relates to ‘making’ under the conditions of Australia’s settler-colonialism. In doing so, I will not only unpack my own creative practice, but also further uncover Australia’s colonial history through to its present as a settler-colonial nation. Just as my creative practice explores my experiences and critical thoughts as both an Indigenous and descendant of migrants, this seminar will also explore ‘Australia’ as a society and nation which seeks to continue the dispossession of Indigenous Peoples as well as close its borders to non-white migrants.
